About Speed Puzzling
Have you tried speed puzzling? It’s a fast-growing sport where puzzlers race the clock to complete a puzzle as quickly as possible. At Pièce à Pièce, we’re big fans of the adrenaline, energy, and pure fun that comes with it.
Start Small
Start with 100- or 250-piece puzzles and choose images you enjoy so you don’t get overwhelmed. Once you're comfortable, work your way up to 500-piece puzzles, which are the standard for most single and pairs competitions.

Speed
Don’t worry if you're slow at first. Learning new strategies and improving your time is part of the fun. Set small, realistic goals and you'll be hooked in no time. Just have fun! -
Timer
Use a count-up timer that can go past the 2-hour mark and can display seconds. Your phone works perfectly, but some kitchen timers work well too.
Into the Unknown
In competitions, you usually won’t know the puzzle image until the event begins. Once revealed, you can use the box as a guide "” although in some events, you'll only receive a bag of pieces with no box at all.
competition puzzles
Ravensburger is considered the gold standard in speed puzzling and is often the main sponsor at national and international events. Other great brands for practice include Schmidt, Nathan, Bluebird, Pieces & Peace, and Pierre Belvedère, thanks to their ribbon-cut puzzles and smaller piece sizes. It's always fun to practice with past competition puzzles to see where you would have ranked. See below for a selection of some our favourites from past competitions.
